In the lead up to the Future Banking Forum, we caught up with Simon Vans-Colina, Monzo neo bank co-founder and lead on open banking and APIs. We talked about his view of the Australian market, IFTTT, open banking and more.
Monzo is a U.K. neo bank, who already have over 2 million users and a unicorn valuation. They’re known for their “hot coral” cards, incredible app experience, loyal customers and innovative features.
Aleks: Hi Simon, first off thanks for taking the time to talk to me. To kick things off, could you share with us Monzo’s journey over the last few years and what the bank looks like today?
Simon: Monzo is almost 5 years old now. Barely old enough to go to school, but in that time we’ve grown from 11 people to over eleven hundred, we’ve moved offices 5 times. We’ve built and launched a prepaid card, current accounts, loans, joint accounts, business accounts, savings products....
